Ms. Maisie’s Pie Crust Recipe

With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner there will be time spent with friends and family. Most of us will be spending this time around the heart of a house…the kitchen. In my family this is the time we all bond and cut up, food and with each other. Coming from a family that likes to cook I thought I would share my families pie crust recipe.  Yes you can buy the ready-made crust that you just roll out, and trust me I often use these, but if you plan on making lots of pies (apple pie, pumpkin pie, apple cranberry pie, pecan pie, chocolate pie) like we do this will help save money and there is just nothing like a homemade pie crust. This recipe makes 24 pie crusts, we tend to use all of them by the time the holidays are over…I know I know how is that possible? We tend to make enough pie for everyone to have leftovers but if you don’t plan on making that many pies you can cut the recipe in half or since you are already going to be making them you can make a full batch and freeze the rest.

Pie Crust – 24 Count

48oz can of Crisco

5lb flour

2 tbsp. salt

3 cups cold water

½ cup sugar

Mix flour and Crisco until creamy and smooth.  Dissolve salt and sugar in water and pour into Crisco and flour mixture.  Mix and knead until smooth, cover with a little flour and roll dough into fat tube approximately five inches wide, and divide evenly into 24 servings.

Happy Baking!!
